Introduction to xxx Points
xxx's loyalty program is called [ xxx].
- You can use your AIRLINE points on US AIRLINE, any other ALLIANCE airline, and any of AIRLINE's other airline partners. Some example partners include Air France, KLM, and Korean airlines. Some other notable partners include Cathay Pacific, British Airways, and Japanese Airlines.
- LATAM uses a distance-based award chart, which often requires fewer points than other airlines. Rather than calculating the number of points you need based on the "zone" you are flying to, LATAM charges based on the actual number you fly. As a result, using LATAM points for award tickets is often cheaper than other frequent flyer programs. This is especially true for shorter flights that cross regional boundaries. Taking Advantage of the Annual Credit
Credits only apply to incidental expenses like baggage fees, food and beverage fees, and airport lounge access, not on actual ticket purchases. The credit for this card explicitly includes ticket change and cancellation fees, and preferred seating upgrades, which are often excluded from similar credits.
However, it only includes flights that at least start in the United States, and that are operated by the major US airlines.
Furthermore, you will only receive the credit for fees and incidental purchases made on a single airline that you choose when you first get the card, and can only change at the beginning of every calendar year. If you choose an airline that you fly most frequently, chances are that you'll already have a credit card or elite status that will let you avoid most fees. If you choose an airline you fly less frequently, there is a good chance you won't be able to take full advantage of the credit each year.
Because the credits are issued on a cardholder-year basis, you can only qualify for a single credit during each year you have the card.
Because the credits are issued on a calendar-year basis, you can qualify for two credits the first year you have the card. For example, if you sign up for the card in August, you can get up to $100 credit for purchases made between August and December, and you can get take advantage of another $100 credit between the January and August.
You are not supposed to receive the credit when you purchase a gift card from the airline. However, in practice, you are sometimes still reimbursed. If you don't have an opportunity to use the credit naturally, you can typically purchase small denomination gift cards, take advantage of the credit, and then eventually use the gift cards to purchase actual airplane tickets. This works on same airlines and not others, and the maximum amount of the gift card differs on an airline-specific basis, so at the beginning of the year, you'll need to go online and check the current state of affairs. so you'll need to do some experimentation or online research to see what works.
If you can naturally take full advantage of this credit, or are willing and able to take advantage of airline gift cards, the effective annual fee on this card becomes much more reasonable.
